Health & wellness

Seek balance in the Sunshine Coast, where health is part of the everyday. Here, wellness is a way of life – retreats, specialty spas, national parks, pristine beaches, a mild climate and no shortage of wholesome organic cafes – makes the region a natural destination to treat your mind and body.

Relax, revitalise and refresh at a day spa, wellness centre or health retreat and feel the stress and tensions melt away. Treat yourself to an indulgent treatment in one of the award-winning spas, float in a tank or immerse yourself in a salt cave – there’s no shortage of pampering options.

You may laugh at the thought of wrapping your arms around a tree trunk, but studies have shown that people who spend time with Mother Nature are less stressed. With hundreds of walking trails that zigzag their way through some of the most spectacular rainforests and national parks, the Sunshine Coast is an ideal place to get back in touch with the earth.

Or, if you’re more of a beach person, breathe in fresh sea air and sink your toes into the white sand – there’s nothing more invigorating than a dive into the Pacific Ocean on a sunny winter’s day.

Hidden behind the Coast, Chenrezig Institute is a Buddhist Temple oozing with nature, wellness and spirituality. For real.

Established in 1974, the Institute was among the first Tibetan Buddhist centres in the Western World and remains one of the largest. Chenrezig is a Tibetan word that refers to the Buddha of Compassion and with this approach to life, the centre offers mindful yoga every Friday morning and meditation sessions.

Set amongst lush rainforest, the centre also has a vegetarian cafe, library, art studio, memorial garden and beautiful grounds which are all open to the public from 9am to 1.30pm Friday to Sunday. You can even take a guided tour with a Buddhist Nun (available every Sunday).

The Sunshine Coast lifestyle is synonymous with organic food and health-conscious restaurant and café menus offer nourishing local and seasonal goodness while our markets are among the best for their range of quality produce and wellness-related items.

It’s no surprise, the Sunshine Coast is a magnet for hosting sporting festivals. With the ideal climate and natural landscapes and custom facilities; there is a packed calendar of active events including the annual Mooloolaba Triathlon, Blackall 100 or Ironman 70.3.
